Tips before you go

Practical notes from operators, land managers and published sources — plus reviews written here.

Castle Hot Springs is a private resort in the Bradshaw Mountains. The hot springs, dining, and the rest of the property are for registered overnight guests only. The resort does not offer day passes. Every guest must be 18 or older. Swimwear is required in the natural hot springs, and nudity is prohibited.

The resort says spring water flows out of the rock into three hot pools of varying temperatures, and that the same water heats the main pool and the private soak tubs. It opened in 1896 as Arizona's first wellness resort, closed after a 1976 fire, and reopened in 2019 after reconstruction. A high-clearance vehicle such as an SUV is recommended for the last 7 miles of dirt road. Ride-share services do not serve the property. Pets are not allowed. Valet parking for guest cars is included; RVs, campers, and trailers are not.

NOAA's thermal springs survey measured this vent at 115°F. The Northern Arizona University Arizona Heritage Waters page still describes the resort as closed and run by caretakers. Use that page for history and hydrology only: it reports a source of about 122°F and about 200,000 gallons a day.
