Washington hot springs: year-round soaks, and Sol Duc's November 1 close
By Alex Duplechain · Facts last reviewed October 14, 2026
Once November arrives, plan on the Cascades and the Columbia Gorge. Goldmyer Hot Springs is open every day of the year. Scenic Hot Springs takes winter visitors who reserve and carry snow gear. Carson Hot Springs Golf & Spa Resort and Bonneville Hot Springs Resort & Spa post daily hours and no closing date. Baker Hot Springs is the free pool near Baker Lake when the forest road is open. Sol Duc, the developed pools in Olympic National Park, is the one that shuts: the 2026 season ends at noon on November 1.
A U.S. Geological Survey report defines a hot spring as warmer than body temperature, 37°C (98.6°F), and a warm spring as cooler than that (WRI 91-4052). NOAA figures here are vent or source temperatures (thermal springs list). The bath may be cooler. The state page is Washington.
At a glance

- Bonneville. Moffetts (Bonneville) Hot Springs vent is 97°F, warm. Pools posted at 86°F on one page and 96°F on another. Noon to 7 p.m. daily. No day-pass price on those pages.
- Sol Duc. Season ends at noon on November 1, 2026, and opens March 20. Adult session $19. Pools 99°F, 104°F, and 101°F, all hot. Sol Duc Hot Springs vent is 122°F. Park vehicle pass $30 for seven days, separate.

Which springs stay open in November?
Goldmyer, Scenic, Carson, Bonneville, and Baker Hot Springs stay open past that date.
What is open in the Cascades and the north?
Baker Hot Springs
Baker Hot Springs is free, and it is hot at the source. Baker Hot Spring vent is 108°F.
Leave State Route 20 at milepost 82, follow Baker Lake Road north 17.7 miles, then go 4 miles up high-clearance Forest Road 1130 and Forest Road 1144 to the end. Walk about 0.3 mile to a gravel-bottomed pool. The Forest Service no longer maintains the pool (the tub and changing room came out in 1978). No recreation pass is required. The trailhead has no toilets, no drinking water, and no posted clothing rule.
The July 1, 2026 road release does not name Forest Road 1130 or 1144. It does close Baker Lake Road just after Shannon Creek Campground, which can sit between the highway and the turnoff.
How do you get into Goldmyer?
Goldmyer Hot Springs is reservation-only if you want a guaranteed day. Northwest Wilderness Programs caps the preserve at 20 visitors and does not admit more as others leave. Buy the permit at least two business days ahead. Inside that window, entry is walk-in only: exact cash, and no guarantee. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The access report dated October 14, 2026 says the property stays open in any weather.
Wednesday through Monday is shared use: $30 for adults 18–64, $25 for seniors 65 and older, children 17 and under free (visiting page). Camping is another $10 per adult or senior per night, not on Mondays. Tuesday is exclusive use for one group of up to 8, at $240 a slot year-round, plus $50 if that evening slot includes camping. The springs are swimsuit-optional. NOAA vent: 127°F, hot.
From the Dingford Creek gate, the Dutch Miller Gap trail is 5 miles each way, about 200 feet of climbing, and 2 to 3 hours. The same page's introduction still says 4.5 miles. The spring sits 3.13 miles from National Forest Development Road 9040 in a straight line. You need AWD or 4WD with 8 to 9 inches of clearance. Skip the Middle Fork trail: Burnt Boot Creek has no bridge. The July 1 release lists a washout on Forest Road 56 at milepost 17.3, while Goldmyer's October 14 report still calls that road open to high-clearance vehicles. Read both.
Is Scenic a walk-up?
No. Scenic Hot Springs is private, and walk-ins are turned away. The trailhead is about 10 miles east of Skykomish, then a steep 2-mile hike with 1,100 feet of gain. The same FAQ also says the hike is under 2 miles each way. May through November, any vehicle can park at the trailhead. December through April may take 4WD or chains, plus snowshoes or skis.
The public trail fee is $30–35 a person. Exclusive-use prices disagree: the experience page says $450 in fall and winter (15 people) or $300–350 in spring and summer (10 people), and the visitor page puts spring and summer at $375. Confirm when you reserve. Clothing is optional. Children under 6 are not allowed. One toilet, one changing room, no drinking water, no pets. Lobster stays at 118–122°F and Bear Den at about 111–114°F, both hot. NOAA vent: 122°F.
Which north-Cascades springs are closed?
Gamma Hot Springs and Sulphur Warm Springs are temporarily closed. They are not soaks right now. Miner's Fire closure 06-05-26-17 runs August 15 through December 31, 2026, unless rescinded sooner. It bars Gamma Way Trail 791 and Sulphur Creek Trail 793 and closes the Suiattle Trailhead and Sulphur Creek Campground. The July 1 release adds a washout on the Suiattle River Road, Forest Road 26, at milepost 4.5, and keeps those trailheads closed for the season.
Mt. Baker Hot Springs is permanently closed. It was a resort in Snohomish. It is not Baker Hot Springs, the free pool near Baker Lake, and it is not a soak.
Is Ohanapecosh a soak?
No. Ohanapecosh Hot Springs is sightseeing only, not a soak. The National Park Service says bathing is no longer allowed, and the springs are too small to bathe in.
What is open in the Columbia Gorge?
Carson and Bonneville are private resorts on paved roads a regular car can handle. Neither soak page posts a November close.
Why do Carson's pages disagree?
Carson Hot Springs Golf & Spa Resort, at 372 St. Martin Springs Road, is a hot soak with two rate cards. The bathhouse page posts a one-hour pool pass at $19, a two-hour pass at $31, and a shower and sauna at $15. Water there is about 104°F. Hours on that page are daily, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Children under 18 are not allowed in the soaking tub.
The FAQ posts the therapy pool at $12 plus tax Monday through Thursday and $17 plus tax Friday through Sunday, two hours a day, free for overnight guests. That pool is 104°F (hot). A cold spring averages about 60°F. The bathhouse fill is 110–126°F (hot) before you add cold water. A bath and wrap is $30 plus tax on weekdays and $35 plus tax Friday through Sunday. FAQ bathhouse hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., last ticket at 7 p.m. Day guests use the therapy pool 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., overnight guests until 10 p.m. Swimsuits are required in the therapy pool. Clothing is optional in the gender-separated bathhouse. The year-round line in that FAQ is about the golf course. The soak pages name no closing date.
Is Bonneville hot?
At the source, no. Bonneville Hot Springs Resort & Spa is warm. Moffetts (Bonneville) Hot Springs vent is 97°F, below 98.6°F. The hot springs page posts the indoor pools and hot tub at 86°F and the cold plunge at 37°F. The resort page posts the mineral springs at 96°F, with the same 37°F plunge. Both pool figures are warm. Hours are noon to 7 p.m. daily, adult swim 8 to 10 p.m. Bring a swimsuit. Guests under 18 stay out of the outdoor hot tub (FAQ). One- and two-hour passes are sold, and those pages do not print the price. The address is 1252 East Cascade Drive, North Bonneville. No closing date is posted.
What about Olympic Hot Springs?
Olympic Hot Springs is a long walk to untreated seeps, not a resort. The National Park Service says the old resort is gone. The wilderness seeps are untested, may carry harmful bacteria, and use is at your own risk. Vehicles stop at Madison Falls. Hike or bike 9 miles on Olympic Hot Springs Road, use the washout bypass, then hike 1.5 miles from Boulder Creek trailhead. No bikes or pets on that trail. Camping needs a wilderness permit. A day visit does not. Olympic Hot Springs vent is 118°F, hot. There is no soak fee. The entrance pass still applies: $30 for a private vehicle for seven days, or $15 a person age 16 or older on foot or by bicycle. The park is cashless (fees).
When does Sol Duc close?
Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort closes for the season at noon on November 1, 2026. The mineral pool page opens March 20 at 4 p.m. Fall hours run September 10 through November 1 and end at noon that day. The RV season is the same 2026 window. The National Park Service says the resort is closed in winter, and the pools are open only while the resort is (park page). Sol Duc Road can also close for snow.
A session is 1.5 hours: $19 for ages 12 and older, $15 for ages 4–11, seniors 62 and older, disabled visitors, and military, and free for ages 0–3 with limited pool access. Ten passes, in person, are $150. A towel is $5 when one is available. Pools are 99°F (all ages), 104°F, and 101°F (both ages 4 and older), all hot. The freshwater pool is 50–85°F. The page also prints 98–100, 104–106, and 102–104, and says to ask the lifeguard. Sol Duc Hot Springs vent is 122°F, the source, not the pool. Fall drops the late-morning and evening sessions. The last one ends at 7:30 p.m. The park pass is separate.
What should you recheck?
Recheck Goldmyer's access report, the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie road release, and both Carson rate pages. Sol Duc's noon close on November 1 stands. After it, the resort stays shut until March 20.
