Radium Warm Springs
Radium, Colorado
Radium Warm Springs is a warm spring, not a hot one. The Bureau of Land Management's Kremmling Field Office trail sheet says "Hot Springs" is a misnomer and that warm spring is more accurate. Cold water from the Colorado River mixes with the spring, and the sheet puts the result at a temperature of about 80°F. During high water, typically in spring and early summer, the river floods the pool. This listing uses the BLM name, Radium Warm Springs, and the temperature it shows is that about 80°F. The sheet was captured from the Kremmling chamber site on March 22, 2023; the live chamber link no longer serves the file. NOAA's thermal springs list has no Colorado vent under this name. The live BLM page for the Radium Recreation Area is about camping, boat ramps, and river access, not a soak at the campground. It says there are no designated trails from the recreation area and no designated access to Radium Warm Springs from there. Parking is not permitted on the narrow Radium Road between the recreation area and Trough Road. Social trails along that road were closed to protect bighorn sheep habitat. The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Mugrage site, including the restroom and the social trail that used to reach the springs in the Radium State Wildlife Area, is closed. The BLM's recommended route is to drive to Warm Springs Road, 1.5 miles northeast along Trough Road from the recreation area. That 1.5 miles is a drive, not a hike. Follow the sign at Radium Road and Trough Road. A parking area and trailhead at the end of Warm Springs Road reach the spring on the Warm Springs Trail, which is foot travel only, or on the Ol' Warm Springs Trail, which allows foot, horse, bicycle, and e-bike travel. The older trail sheet's start at the Mugrage camp is not the current route. The same archived sheet says the trail network is about 15 miles southwest of Kremmling and includes about 3.5 miles of trail and closed roads. That 3.5 miles is the network, not a published one-way hike to the pool, so this listing does not turn it into a trail distance. The sheet also says past abuse left broken glass, trash, and human waste in and around dispersed campsites above the warm spring. Recreation-area fees and the seasonal campground are for that campground, not a fee to soak. The recreation area's address on County Road 11 in Bond is not the spring's address. The Kremmling Field Office phone is (970) 724-3000. A road-network snap of the mapped spring is only about 0.01 miles from a road, so the pin is not a backcountry coordinate. The legal approach the BLM describes is still the trail from Warm Springs Road. Visit Grand County's hot springs page gives other figures, a source around 97–100°F and a soak usually about 85°F, while its FAQ says the soak is around 80°F. The number used here is the BLM's about 80°F.

How does the BLM say to reach Radium Warm Springs?
Not from the Radium Recreation Area, and not by parking on Radium Road. The Mugrage site and the social trail that used to reach the springs are closed. Drive to Warm Springs Road, 1.5 miles northeast along Trough Road, follow the sign at Radium Road and Trough Road, and use the trailhead at the end of Warm Springs Road. Warm Springs Trail is foot only. Ol' Warm Springs Trail allows foot, horse, bicycle, and e-bike travel. The 1.5 miles is the drive along Trough Road, not a hike.

Is there a fee to soak?
The BLM pages cited here do not list a soaking fee. Fees on the Radium Recreation Area page are for day use and camping at that recreation area, between April 1 and November 30. Those campgrounds are closed with no service from December 1 to March 31. The recreation area is not the spring, and the BLM says there is no designated access to the spring from it.

Tips before you go
Practical notes from operators, land managers and published sources — plus reviews written here.
Warm, not hot. The BLM says "hot springs" is a misnomer and puts the pool at about 80°F after river water mixes in. High water, typically spring and early summer, floods the pool. Source: https://web.archive.org/web/20230322123200/https://www.kremmlingchamber.com/assets/pdf/WarmSpringTrails/
Do not start from the Radium Recreation Area or park on Radium Road. The Mugrage social trail is closed. Drive 1.5 miles northeast on Trough Road to Warm Springs Road and use that trailhead. Warm Springs Trail is foot only. Source: https://www.blm.gov/visit/radium-recreation-area
The recreation area's campground fees are not a soak fee. Its County Road 11 address in Bond is the campground, not the spring. Field office: (970) 724-3000. Source: https://www.blm.gov/visit/radium-recreation-area
