Viewing only: fenced, scalding pools, and the only tub is on private land
Friends of Black Rock-High Rock says Double Hot Springs is fenced and should not be entered. Its pools run about 180°F with steep, slippery banks, and people and dogs have died after falling in. The soaking tub about 50 yards downstream is on private property.

Tips before you go
Practical notes from operators, land managers and published sources — plus reviews written here.
Dirt roads and playa, not pavement: Friends of Black Rock-High Rock says the route is only passable in dry conditions — never drive on wet playa, and it can be days before anyone passes. BLM recommends high-clearance vehicles with off-road tires (at least 6-ply) and spares, carrying extra water, food and clothing; there is no cell signal. Friends of Black Rock-High Rock: take the same road as Black Rock Springs; heading north, turn west at the signed intersection pointing to Hardin City. Do not enter the source pools: they are fenced, about 180°F, with steep slippery banks, and people and dogs have died after falling in. Runoff streams are nearly as hot; keep dogs leashed and children close. A soaking tub about 50 yards downstream is on private property. Burning Man closures: BLM temporarily closes part of the Black Rock Desert playa each year. In 2026 Phase 1 (about 10,185 acres) runs July 30–October 10 and Phase 2 (about a third of the playa) ran August 24–September 11; the 8-mile playa entrance was closed August 23–September 9. The rest of the playa stays open, and the East and West Playa Highways stay open for through traffic only. Black Rock Field Office: 775-623-1500.
