Tips before you go

Practical notes from operators, land managers and published sources — plus reviews written here.

Short walk: NPS says the hot spring is 0.5 mile round trip from the trailhead (about 0.25 mile each way) on a sand-and-rock trail, and is not accessible by car. Hot Springs Road is a 2-mile rough, narrow gravel road; motor homes and oversize vehicles are prohibited on its one-way sections. The trailhead dirt lot is for high-clearance vehicles; low-clearance cars, trailers and RVs park farther up the road, adding about 1 mile round trip. NPS: the spring emerges at 105°F inside the foundation of J.O. Langford's former bathhouse on the north bank of the Rio Grande. A 1-mile loop continues on the bluff above the river back to the trailhead; vault toilets and picnic tables are at the trailhead.
